Crest Audio balances club sound with speakeasy character at Attika Bali
Opened in 2017, Attika sits on the third floor of La Favela, one of Seminyak’s best-known dining and nightlife destinations. Reached through a private entrance within La Favela, the venue offers a change of pace and atmosphere from the spaces below.

Attika draws its identity from the speakeasies of the Prohibition era. Cocktails are a central part of the experience, with the venue moving from relaxed socialising into a more energetic late-night setting as the evening develops.

That combination presented a particular challenge for the audio system. Attika needed the power and low-frequency presence expected from a modern club, but it was not intended to feel like
a conventional nightclub. The sound had to support the atmosphere of the room rather than work against it.

The system had to perform convincingly at different levels, retaining warmth and detail during quieter periods while providing the output and headroom required when the room became busier.

Coverage was another important consideration. In an intimate venue, uneven sound is particularly noticeable. Excessive levels close to a loudspeaker
can quickly become uncomfortable, while quieter areas elsewhere in the room can feel detached from the music. As the number of guests changes throughout the night, so does the way sound behaves within the space, making controlled and consistent coverage essential.

The system also had to deliver sufficient impact without relying on volume alone. Strong bass is an important part of the experience, particularly during DJ-led events,
but it needed to remain controlled. At the upper end of the frequency range, the requirement was for clarity and definition without the harshness that can lead to listening fatigue over the course of a long evening.

Crest Audio Versarray 112 MK III passive two-way ribbon line-array modules were selected for the main system. Each combines a 12-in Neo Black Widow woofer with two RD 2.6
MK III ribbon tweeters, providing the output and controlled dispersion required for the space.

The system’s adjustable rigging allowed the array to be configured around the room, directing sound towards the areas where it is needed and helping to reduce large differences in level across the venue. The ribbon high-frequency section reproduces the detail in the music clearly, while maintaining a smoother character at the higher operating
levels required later in the night.

Crest Audio CPL+ loudspeakers provide further support across the venue, contributing to more consistent coverage and helping the system maintain a balanced presentation throughout the room.

Power is supplied by Crest Audio Pro-Lite amplifiers. Their Class-D design and switch-mode power supplies combine high output with a lightweight and efficient format. More importantly for Attika, they provide the headroom needed to
handle the changing demands of the venue without the system sounding strained when music levels increase.

Day-to-day management is handled through a Crest Audio PCX platform with Dante. The processor is located on the ground floor but controls Attika’s upstairs audio system across the network. This arrangement gives the sound engineer convenient access to the system without requiring the processing equipment to be housed within the venue
itself.

It also brings system control, DSP and networked audio together on a single platform, making the installation easier to manage during normal operation and across the different events and performances hosted at Attika.

Zuben Naik, operational manager at La Favela and Attika, commented: “From my experience working with the Crest Audio system at Attika, I’ve found it to be very reliable and consistent for our
day-to-day operations. The system has been performing well and gives us a clean, powerful sound that works really well for the different events and performances we host.”

The finished system reflects the way Attika operates. It has enough output for late-night DJ sets, but it can also sit comfortably behind the conversation during the earlier part of the evening. Coverage remains consistent across the room, and the system gives the venue team the control and flexibility needed for regular operation.
