Meta has confirmed that hundreds of roles will be slashed, affecting its VR division and other areas of business.
The cuts will affect Meta’s VR division, Reality Labs, according to CNBC, as
well as Meta’s Facebook global operations, recruiting, and sales.
CNBC reported that some impacted
employees are being offered new roles within the company, which in some cases
will require relocation.
The layoffs coincide with Meta’s increasing move into artificial intelligence, after
shutting down a number of studios that were working on VR titles.
Speculation surrounding
the company's plans for job cuts were first reported in January 2026.
Speaking to
CNBC, a Meta spokesperson said: “Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes
to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals. Where possible, we
are finding other opportunities for employees whose positions may be impacted.”
