Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre connects its production environment with Riedel
Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre in Victoria, Australia, has deployed Riedel MediorNet video infrastructure alongside an intercom ecosystem built around Artist to support its broadcast and production workflows. Together, the systems provide flexible 12G-SDI signal distribution, streamlined integration with visiting outside broadcast (OB) operations, and wired and wireless communications across the venue.

Opened on June 20, the Australian convention and event centr3 is located directly on Geelong’s waterfront. Nyaal Banyul comprises the 1,000-seat Wala Mirr Theatre, approximately 3,700 sq m of flexible event space, and a suite of divisible breakout rooms. Designed to
host a broad range of events — from gala dinners and conferences to flat-floor concerts and exhibitions — the venue is also expected to support events for regional and national broadcast, making flexible AV and broadcast infrastructure a key requirement.

A dedicated
high-bandwidth layer based on Riedel MediorNet supports the venue’s broadcast requirements. Fiber connectivity extends throughout the facility, enabling 12G-SDI signals to be transported between production areas and the MediorNet infrastructure. Cameras can be connected locally and their signals transported over fiber, while
a MicroN UHD can be deployed directly in an event space to provide a local connection point into the wider MediorNet network.

The infrastructure also provides a direct path to visiting outside broadcast facilities. A dedicated 24-core single-mode fibre connection runs to
the venue’s satellite truck position, enabling signals on the MediorNet network to be made available at the OB patch. For broadcasters already operating within the MediorNet ecosystem, their production infrastructure can connect to the venue network over fibre, simplifying the exchange of signals
between the building and the truck.

Michael Walker, senior manager of audiovisual at Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre, said: “For us, MediorNet is one of the highest-bandwidth, self-healing networked SDI transport systems available today. It allows us to bring 12G-SDI
signals into the network anywhere in the building where we have fibre. We can bring individual camera signals back to the central infrastructure, deploy a MicroN UHD locally in the room, or integrate a broadcaster’s MediorNet-equipped truck over fibre. That gives us
a great deal of flexibility in how we support each production.”

For production communications, Nyaal Banyul uses a Riedel intercom ecosystem built around Artist and combining Bolero wireless intercom, PunQtum partyline intercom, and Riedel SmartPanels. Sixteen Bolero antennas provide coverage across the
venue’s indoor and outdoor areas, with 36 Bolero beltpacks available on site. In the Wala Mirr Theatre, Artist, PunQtum, and SmartPanels complement the wireless Bolero infrastructure. Together, the systems enable technical teams, clients, and production personnel to remain connected as they move and work throughout the facility.
