BenQ has developed SmartEco technology for its range of DLP projectors, following a move to incorporate Philips’ ImageCare technology into its projector lamp system.
The company claims the technology combines energy efficiency with optimized image contrast and a longer lamp life.
SmartEco dynamically adjusts lamp power based on projected content. BenQ claims this is done without compromising on picture quality.
The company says the breakthrough is in the lamp systems energy efficient way of adjusting to different brightness settings. SmartEco lets the projector compensate for this process with an internal software solution that is designed to maintain the ideal color spectrum and provide an improved contrast ratio. The technology produces no more light than is necessary and adapts to its own ideal.
When the projected content contains dark elements, the lamp dims accordingly for those scenes without any loss of visible brightness. This prolongs lamp life by up to 80% and reduces energy consumption by up to 50%.
BenQ business and education projectors featuring SmartEco technology have been available since the beginning of September.
