A murder suspect was arrested in China by artificial intelligence software after attempting to take out a loan under the guise of his dead girlfriend.
Chinese authorities were tipped off by an online lending company that utilises
artificial intelligence to verify the identify of loan applicants.
The suspect allegedly applied
for a loan using the Money Station App, which includes a process that
asks applicants to wink their eyes.
The software did not find signs of
eye movement, with a manual check revealing injuries on the woman’s face and neck
alongside vocal anomalies that detected that the voice originated from a man trying
to apply for a loan instead of a loan.
The system’s red flags
led to staff contacting the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect allegedly attempted to use his girlfriend’s phone to steal 30,000 Yuan (€3778.65).
