Apple has filed a patent for a system that would let listeners hear audio as if they were centred in front of a display, regardless of their position.
Apple focused blog Patently Apple reports that Apple has outlined
a multi-speaker audio system for TV, live-streaming and – with a recent
addition – amphitheatres.
The patents, filed with the US Patent Office,
detail a system that can separately control directivity of left and
right channels of audio to maintain a sweet spot for listeners even
when they are not perfectly centred with the display.
Exactly where
the technology is likely to be applied is unclear but we
could see it turning up in laptops, flat screen TVs and perhaps
even professional applications.
