Event production company Blitz has gone into liquidation. Blitz was formed in 1989 and bought by GES in 2014. Blitz GES was technical production on-site partner at some of the UK’s biggest venues, including ExCeL London, the NEC, Olympia London, Manchester Central and The Brewery.
All staff have been made redundant.
The events industry in the UK, like the rest of the world, is under huge threat due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has seen all live events, big and small, cancelled overnight for zix months, with no end in sight.
Ex-staff have taken to social media to express their sadness at the news, including Michael Breen, exec chairman at Media pOwerhouse; "In May 1989 together with Eddie Blitz, Charles Beddow, Peter Sutton, Chris Scadding and Eric Hood I was proud to become a founding Director of Blitz. Over many years we worked with the most amazing clients and colleagues on some truly superb events. We had fun but always made sure that we delivered. I am pleased to be able to call many of the Blitz team over the years my friends and although I left in 2007 always took a keen interest in the old company. I am sorry for all of those talented people at Blitz who are now having to look towards a different future and wish them all well. Likewise to all the other talented professionals of our industry who now find themselves in a similar position because of this pandemic and a Government who have forgotten us."
A starement from parent company GES to Exhibition News said; “Unfortunately, the devastating effect that Covid has had and continues to have on the live events industry have forced some extremely difficult decisions. It is clear, however, that we cannot continue to operate certain lines of business at a loss. GES remains a strong and stable provider in the live events industry, and is well-positioned to continue to provide world-class service to clients.”
