Bose founder and chairman dies aged 83
Dr Amar Bose, founder and chairman of Bose Corporation, died aged 83 on July 12, 2013 at his home in Wayland, Massachusetts.

In a statement on the company’s website, Bose’s president Bob Maresca described Dr Bose
as “an incredible mentor and inspiration” and said “the company was deeply saddened” by
his death.

Dr Bose founded the company in 1964 when he was a professor of
electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He gained his bachelor’s degree, master’s
degree and PhD. at MIT before taking up the teaching post and in 2011 he
donated most of the company’s stock to the university
.

Maresca said: “Dr Bose
founded Bose Corporation almost 50 years ago with a set of guiding principles that never
changed, and never will. Bose Corporation will remain privately held, and stay true to
his ideals.”

Dr Bose was born in 1929 in Philadelphia, the son of a Bengali freedom fighter and an American mother.
