US regulators have granted Google approval to deploy ‘Project Soli’, a radar-based hand motion sensor.
The Soli sensor, which fits onto a chip,
will capture motion in a 3D space using a radar
beam to track the human hand.
Google says users
will be able to control Soli through ‘virtual tool gestures’,
using fingers to press virtual buttons, use virtual sliders
and turn virtual dials.
According to Google, the Soli-enabled chip,
which operates in the 60-GHz can be embedded in
wearable technology as well as phones, computers and cars.
Google
has not specified a release date for Project Soli.
