The HDMI Forum has announced the upcoming release of version 2.2 of its HDMI specification, designed to deliver improved options for the HDMI ecosystem.
Higher 96Gbps bandwidth aims to improve data-intensive, immersive and virtual commercial applications such as XR, spatial reality, and
light field displays, as well as other commercial applications including large-scale digital signage, medical imagine, and machine vision. HDMI
fixed rate link technology is also provided to improve audio and video for a range of device applications.
Latency
indication protocol (LIP) is provided with HDMI version 2.2 for improved audio and video synchronisation, especially in environments with
a multiple-hop system configuration such as those with an audio video receiver or soundbar.
A new Ultra96 HDMI cable
is included, supporting all HDMI 2.2 specification features, part of the HDMI cable certification program which requires each model
length to be tested and certified, displaying a certification label.
Chandlee Harrell, president, HDMI Forum, commented: “The HDMI Forum’s
continuing mission is to develop specifications to meet the HDMI eco-system’s growing demand for high-performance capabilities and features.
“This
new specification supports the fast-evolving landscape for amazing new technologies and products entering the markets now and in the future.”
