Head-turning VC system developed by NTT
A videoconferencing system that mimics head movements is being developed by Japanese company NTT, according to Tokyo news site, Diginfo TV. Users' faces are projected onto carefully positioned see-through screens which are moved by an arrangement of actuators. Face tracking technology traces the movement of a participants head which is then mimicked on the screen. Loudspeakers are positioned under screens so a voice will come from the person speaking.

Developers claim that
movements, such as making eye
contact and head nodding,
have a huge influence on
a conversation.

The system
is still in development and
NTT says it is
working on perfect positioning for
projection screens and advancing real-time operation.
