DisplAir has added interactivity to floating images, projected onto a bank of fog. The small Russian company is building on developments by FogScreen who originally pioneered the technology that creates mesmerising projected objects that appear to hang in mid-air. FogScreen has already explored interactivity using laser scanner technology. DisplAir’s solution uses an infrared camera to capture gestures a subtle as small hand movements.
The technology is expected to make headway in advertising
and entertainment industries.
Software has been developed that allows users to
navigate menus and scale, rotate and move images using standard
gestures. A keypad can be called up and images can
even be drawn in the air.
According to reports from technology
news site Gizmag, the display can handle up to 1,500
finger taps simultaneously with 1cm accuracy and a time delay
of less than two seconds.
The technology is expected to make
headway in advertising and entertainment industries and DisplAir is currently looking for investors.
