James Cameron called for higher frame rates to improve 3D content when speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month. The Avatar director says that it's time to step up frame rates from the 24 frames per second that has been used since the late 1920s. Cameron showed footage shot at 24, 48 and 60 fps, claiming the higher frame rates showed enhanced clarity and sense of detail.
Cameron has said that newer digital
projectors can already handle higher frame rates
with a software update.
He also
says that the shift will brighten the
picture to compensate for darkening from 3D
glasses.
Cameron is continuing his push with
producer Jon Landau and believes the
industry should focus on frame rates and
light output before looking at pushing resolution above 4K.
