Japanese mirror manufacturer Murakami has developed a contactless interface, incorporating ‘floating pictogram technology’ (FPT) to create a FPT system used in Japanese toilets.
Murakami, a company which develops and manufactures rear-view
mirrors for cars, worked with Parity Innovations by
using an optical mirror, the Parity Mirror, providing contactless
operation for toilets as well as healthcare applications.
The technology works by using infared sensors to detect
finger movement, estimating where the user is pressing
and activating the specified feature.
Murakami is currently
deploying its FPT system for evaluation by mancufacturers
and hospitals, with mass production set to begin in 2022.
