Solid state illumination (SSI) projectors are expected to outperform the overall projector market in 2013, despite cuts in Western European education budgets, according to Pacific Media Associates (PMA).
The market information body expects an overall growth rate of 18% in
2013, which will result in 11.3 mullion units shipping worldwide.
Conversions for major
cinema chains to digital projectors is slowing. However, PMA believes a crop
of lower-cost models geared at smaller, independent theatres and public venues will help
the market, especially in China, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
While
the D-Cinema conversions for major cinema chains worldwide is slowing, a crop of
new lower-cost models geared at smaller, independent theaters and other public venues
will continue to move this segment forward at a better pace than previous
forecasts showed. This is especially true in China, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.
