The first full-colour, large area, quantum dot display has been crated by engineers in South Korea, according to Nature Photonics.
Quantum dot technology has been tipped to improve displays that produce
crisper images and use less energy.
However, it has proved difficult
to make large displays without compromising image quality.
Now, researchers claim to
have made a breakthrough with the printing technique. Byoung Lyong Choi, an
electronic engineer at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology in Yongin,
South Korea, was one of the researchers that worked on the project.
He says the team turned to “a more old-fashioned printing technique” to
produce the display.
The team has now produced a 10cm full-colour
display with brighter and more efficient pixels.
Furthermore, bending the screen did not affect its performance.
