PBX video systems leave dedicated VC and telepresence behind
AV integrators could miss out on VC and telepresence revenue as market research points to growth dominated by PBX-based systems.

According to analyst, Infonetics Research, global sales for dedicated VC and telepresence solutions were
down 26% (quarter on quarter) in the first quarter of 2013, while PBX-based video systems
grew 18%.

"Dedicated video systems continue to struggle, but PBX-based systems are picking up the
slack," notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research.

"Declines
in dedicated systems are almost perfectly offset by growth in PBX systems, which doubled
year-over-year in the first quarter of 2013, as enterprises seek out lower-cost multimedia communication solutions."

The research body also reported good news for the EMEA region, which outstripped growth in
North America and Asia Pacific.

Cisco saw off rivals to secure the top spot in
the VC equipment league tables, followed by Polycom and Huawei, while videophones were highlighted as the fastest-growing hardware endpoint segment.
