Pentagon takes order for augmented reality display system
The US Army could soon provide soldiers with information projected directly onto glasses after the Pentagon put an order for prototype units from Innovega. The BBC reported on the order for a system that pairs a contact lens with HUD units to allow a wearer to see an image right in front of their eyes as well as the view through the glasses.

According the BBC Innovega has signed a
contract to deliver a fully-functioning prototype to the
Pentagon’s research laboratory, Darpa. The US Department of
Defense has already been instrumental in providing funding
for the product’s development.

Off the battlefield potential
applications are diverse and Innovega also sees the
system used to deliver 3D movies, with separate
images sent to each lens of the glasses,
and believes a product will be commercially available in 2014.
