McDonald’s installed Righthear beacons in its Israeli restaurants, launching its first audio orientation service for the visually impaired.
RightHear, a spatial orientation product is designed for people who are
blind or visually impaired.
The app provides audio information based on
beacons in the restaurant, with the company installing self-powered sensors near points
of interest (entrances, toilets, the counter and lifts), using Bluetooth to
communicate with the user’s smartphone device through the RightHear app.
Users will
be informed where areas of interest are, informing them of both
direction and distance, such as “To the seating area, continue in this
direction for 10 feet and turn left.”
The app can also
provide general information about the location in which the user is in.
