Samsung comes to Sony’s rescue
Sony will be given a helping hand from rival Samsung Electronics according to a report from The Korea Times. The English language newspaper, published daily in South Korea, reported that Samsung had been in talks with Sony to supply TV panels using LEDs as backlights. There were also rumours that following a deal Sony would launch several edge-lit-based LED models later in the year.

The newspaper cited a source in Samsung that had anonymously
said the Korean company was planning to provide Sony with TV
panels measuring 40", 46" and 55".
If the reports are to
be believed it’s good news for Sony which hasn’t had an
easy ride over the past few months. Last year the
electronics giant posted an operating loss of 227.7 billion yen (€1.7
billion), its first loss in 14 years. Furthermore, reports were rife
in March that Samsung had withheld white LEDs from Sony in
a move that would see Sony face crippling costs using RGB alternatives.
