Sony is facing a severe setback on its journey into LED TV due to white LED sourcing difficulties, according to recent reports from the Korea Times.
The newspaper published a statement from an anonymous
Samsung Electronics executive that suggested Sony was unable to
receive cutting edge white LEDs from Samsung.
White LED
backlights are much cheaper than RGB ones and are
therefore key to cost-effective manufacture. A Samsung staff member told
the Korean Times that without a deal Sony will
find it hard to have any strength in the
market.
In separate news that emerged this week Sony
said its focus would be on big-screen technology and not OLED screens.
