New software called Teleport, made by a company called Varjo, allows users to scan any space and recreate it in immersive 3D, giving viewers the ability to explore every detail, as if they were there in person.
Varjo, a provider of industrial-grade virtual and mixed reality hardware and software, has announced the general availability of
Teleport by Varjo, the first service to offer ultra high-resolution 3D scanning using just a smartphone.
Teleport is available
for both professional and individual users for $29.99 per month.
The commercial launch concludes a closed beta period during
which Varjo worked with around 2,000 professionals and enterprises to develop and optimise the software. Beta-testers were able to
capture places with just 5–10 minutes of scanning, much faster than the hours or days needed for standard photogrammetry
workflows.
Powered by generative models trained on NVIDIA GPUs, Teleport enables the creation of photorealistic digital twins, by synthesising
HD 3D scenes out of photos taken on a smartphone. Once a place is captured using Teleport, it can
then be viewed on a phone, PC, or experienced in full virtual reality. This reduces the time and complexity
traditionally associated with digitising real-world places, enabling new workflows in fields such as design, remote inspection, construction, and training.
