UK doctors can use VR for emergency patient care practice
Doctors in the UK can now use virtual reality simulations of emergency care for help with patients with Type 1 diabetes.

The VR simulation, developed by NHS England’s diabetes team and
Oxford Medical Simulation uses Oculus Rift headsets with VR software and
clinical information from the UK National Health Service.

The simulations can
be used for realistic practice before being applied on real patients
in the real world, allowing users to recognise hard to
spot life-threatening symptoms such as dangerously high or low blood sugar
levels.

The VR system is being rolled out across multiple NHS
sites in the south of England as a training pilot, with
potential for nationwide adoption if the pilot scheme is deemed successful.
