Whitwam AVI installed a K-array loudspeaker system designed by Michael Hyland & Associates at Canterbury Cathedral in the UK.
The Cathedral’s earlier sound reinforcement system, installed in the 70s, was starting to
fail. Whitwam worked with K-Array’s UK distributor 2B Heard to model a new
system for the Quire using K-Array’s Framework software. The key objective was to deliver
sound more accurately at the choir stalls and remove unwanted reflections that the
old system had introduced.

Tornado-KT2 speakers on custom brackets were installed between the crenelations
of the Eastery Screen, aimed downwards towards the choir stalls. A pair of
Rumble-KU44 subs were mounted on custom brackets behind grilles at floor level with a
further pair amongst the stonework up towards the presbytery. These are powered by
Kommander-KA14 and KA02 amplifiers from the equipment rack located in a loft overlooking the quire.
