LG Display showed off an OLED display less than one millimetre thick at a press event in Korea on May 19. The LG subsidiary demonstrated the 55-in panel weighing 1.9kg as part of a showcase to outline its vision for the future and an OLED focused display strategy. A magnetic mat situated behind a wall allowed the demonstration to show the unit being stuck to the surface and then peeled off.
In a prepared statement Sang-Deog Yeo,
head of LG Display's OLED business unit,
described OLED as “a groundbreaking technologyâ€.
OLED display
developments have ramped up in recent years
and have ushered in developments in flexible,
innovative screen types. The technology is still
relatively expensive although this has been tackled by
researcher institutes including a MIT offshoot, which
recently developed an
inkjet printing process for OLED.
