Sony has unveiled a new flexible electronic display at this year’s Dealer Convention in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Attendees were treated to a glimpse of a prototype device although details as to where the company intended to use the technology remained scarce. Sony Insider, an online news portal surprisingly dedicated to all things Sony, reported that the product uses a plastic, not glass, substrate.
The plastic substrate is lighter and less
breakable than glass. Furthermore, it offers numerous benefits
in terms of flexibility, paving the way for
products that can be bent multiple times and
even rolled up.
LG has said it
will begin producing a flexible e-paper by the
end of this year so it is likely
that Sony will not leave it too long
before it transforms the flexible concept into a commercial product.
